I love trying different kinds of wines. So why not have a wine tasting for holidays. And it’s even more fun with family and friends. This is why I decided to learn how to host a wine tasting party at home. Now it’s something I do more often because it is so easy to put together for a small group, or even a wine tasting for two.
Some of the holidays I enjoy preparing a wine tasting for are New Year’s Day, Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. It is so easy to prepare a charcuterie board for the different holidays.

Party Host Tips & FAQs
Doing something for the first time is not always easy. However, I know from experience that if you have a plan in place the odds of it working are greater. So just a few items to jot down are number of guests, venue, theme, food and pairings, presentation, and prizes.
Successful Wine Tasting
As discussed earlier remember to have a plan in place to guarantee success. Let’s start with the invitation. There are so many ways to design, create, and customize your on invitations. Click here to see a site I use to make customized invitations for all my events that allows you to upload any photo.
Venue and theme go hand in hand to me. I am usually hosting at my home and the theme is holiday inspired. And so much food and wine pairings to hear about, and try. To get expert advice on how/what to pair join us on our weekly Wine and Dine Show to learn more. We have new shows LIVE each Wednesday at 5:30pm (PST) / 6:30pm (MST) / 7:30pm (CST) / 8:30pm (EST) / 9:30pm (AST) on our “Zoom Meeting Room” http://rrr247webinars.com / or https://zoom.us/j/267159642
Presentation
Presentation is simple when you already have a wine labeled St Patrick’s Day. You can get this wine and other fabulous wines delivered to your door each month. It is almost like Christmas each month when I receive my delivery. I just use the wines received for my next tasting. Learn more here.
In the wine kit are note areas include Name, Sniff, Sip, Savor, and Score. Easy to use at all wine tastings and blind wine tastings too. However, there is an art to it doing wine tasting correctly. It is called the 5 S’s.
- See the wine-Color is key. Red wines gradually lose color as they age. White wines gain color-the darker the color of wine means more full-bodied flavor.
- Swirl-Literally swirl the wine in the glass which helps to aerate the wine and bring out the aroma and flavors.
- Sniff – You need to stick your nose down into the glass almost touching the liquid and take a good sniff, allowing you to distinguish the aromas and smells of the wine.
- Sip –Take a sip of the wine and swish it around in your mouth to enjoy the sensation.
- Swallow/Spit –Swallow the wine to feel how is goes down. But remember, if you more than one wine to taste, you will need to have a spit vessel. This may sound disgusting, but you do not want your house full of inebriated guest.
The kit includes traditional wine scales, to get guests thinking like a wine enthusiast. These scales include Dry to Sweet, Fruity to Earthy, Light to Bold, and Low Acidity to High Acidity.
Games and Prizes
I love to have fun activities and games at the wine tastings. Some easy games are scavenger hunts. I just simply make a card for everyone with the theme in mind and let the guest have fun. Trivia questions about the theme are always fun too.
I always have a few prizes to give away just as a thank you and appreciation for them coming. The prizes usually are designed around the theme and everyone receives one.
I also, have other prizes such as these below:
- Chocolate basket – includes a bottle of wine and of course chocolate for first customer signup
- Cheese basket –includes great cheeses paired with a nice wine for the first Ambassador that signs that night.
- Bottle of choice – Guest can choose a bottle of their favorite wine from the tasting for winning the game.
In conclusion, just have fun. Life is two short. Thank all your guests for coming out and celebrating the holiday with you and look forward to the next one. To always have wine on hand join to have fine wines delivered to your door too. Enjoy tasting!
